Aviapin Fokker F27 Friendship Pin Badge - Ex-NLM Aircraft

£13.00

Aviapin is proud to present a new edition made from material from a Dutch turboprop legend - the Fokker F27 Friendship. The popular aircraft was developed in the 1950s and some remain in service today, almost 70 years later. Aviapin's aircraft flew with Dutch regional carrier NLM, and the material from the unknown airframe comes from the tip of the aircraft's tailfin.

Edition 10 presents an 18mm pin badge with a spring-loaded clasp for extra strong hold. The blue is the original paint, and this edition includes an exclusive vinyl sticker depicting the aircraft that will not be available separately. Fewer than 40 pins are available in this limited edition.

Fokker's F27 first flew in 1955 and was introduced into airline service three years later. Using the Rolls Royce Dart turboprop engine meant a quieter and smoother flight for passengers, who also enjoyed a pressurised cabin. After 30 years of success with the aircraft, Fokker introduced an updated F50 model, which can still be seen around the world today.

NLM Nederlandse Luchtvaart Maatschappij was a regional subsidiary of Dutch national carrier KLM, and their first aircraft took to the skies in 1966. Initially leasing F27s from the Dutch air force, NLM expanded its list of destinations from a selection of Dutch cities to other north European airports, including Hamburg and London Gatwick. The airline was rebranded NLM City Hopper in 1988 and was eventually absorbed into its parent airline in 1991.

Please note that due to the active life of the fuselage skin from which these pieces are made, there can be some variation in colour and finish. Some have scratches on the paintwork, but these are not faults; they are evidence of the many miles flown by this aircraft through freezing rain and baking sun.
