Aviapin Boeing 747-436 G-CIVE Pin Badge - Ex British Airways Aircraft
This very limited edition is available in a number of colours, mounted on a collectable backing card featuring an illustration of the aircraft and information about the particular airframe on the back. The pin-badge is made from authentic aircraft skin featuring the original British Airways paint and includes a sprung locking pin back, for an extra secure fixing. The badge is 18mm across.
G-CIVE entered British Airways service in 1994 and flew with the airline for the next 26 years. For much of its life, VE flew in British Airways' Chatham Dockyard livery, but for a few years during the 1990s, the aircraft wore the modified "Landor" scheme of British Asia Airways, the BA subsidiary set up to get around the Chinese government's ban on airlines which also served Taipei. VE was one on a handful of BAA 747s which flew a London-Hong Kong-Taipei route. The backing card for this edition commemorates this era in the airframe's career, though the skin pieces from which the pin badges are made show the final Chatham Dockyard paint.
VE aircraft was one of many 747s removed from service during 2020, when the COVID 19 pandemic forced airlines to reconsider their fleet sizes. At that moment, BA decided to bring forward the retirement of its remaining 747-400s, and VE was one of the casualties of this decision.
VE (Edition 6) joins G-CIVF (Edition 4), G-CIVG (Edition 1) and G-CIVY (Edition 3) in the Aviapin range, and will be followed by further releases from other BA 747 airframes. Follow @aviapin on Instagram to see details as they are released.
Please note that due to the active life of the fuselage skin from which these pieces are made, there can be some variation in colour and finish. Some have scratches on the paintwork, but these are not faults; they are evidence of the millions of miles flown by this aircraft through freezing rain and baking sun.
